Are you looking to start a career that uses your passion for working out and your desire to help people achieve their fitness goals?  Have you considered personal fitness coaching?

According to The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, personal training is one of the fastest growing professions in the US.  Why?  It offers independent minded people flexible hours focused on doing what they are passionate about while inspiring clients to meet their fitness goals to be at their personal best.

What does it take to be a successful Personal Fitness Trainer?
This is not just about your outside appearance. Of course, you have to walk the walk and lead a healthy life, but you don’t have to be a bodybuilder to be a successful personal fitness coach. To be successful, our fitness trainers exhibit:

  • Leadership – Are you disciplined, empathetic, professional, creative and likable? Are you passionate about fitness? Are you upbeat, positive and charismatic and yet able to just be there sometimes to listen, educate, and motivate?  Personal trainers must be caring, trustworthy and inspiring leaders. You will be helping clients become more active, while making a difference in their lives. If you like the idea of helping people master technique, make small adjustments to form, encourage higher intensity effort, while ensuring their safety, personal training could be your calling.

  • An Interest in Having Your Own Business - Being a personal fitness trainer means not just networking to attract clients, but also establishing strong, lasting relationships in order to keep them.   You will be starting a career not just a job, therefore you must be organized, self-motivated and appreciate structure in order to be successful.

  • Emotional Intelligence - Because personal fitness trainers spend their days working closely with a revolving door of personalities, it helps to be the kind of person who enjoys and even seeks out social diversity.  How would you rate your “Emotional Intelligence” (EQ)?  EQ is your ability to recognize and understand emotions, and your skill at using this awareness to manage yourself and your relationship with others.  It is marked by your ability to be self-aware, to self-manage, to read the social cues and manage your relationships.  The higher your EQ, the better your performance in leadership, teamwork, and bonding with others.  Since you will be responsible for helping a variety of clients get and stay focused to reach their goals, EQ is critical to your success and theirs.
